Andrews Original Salts has both a laxative and an antacid action and helps relieve the symptoms of stomach upsets, indigestion and over production of bile. This medicine contains three main ingredients:Sodium bicarbonate and citric acid are antacids which work by neutralising excess acid and help relieve the symptoms and discomfort associated with stomach upsets and indigestion.Magnesium sulphate has a laxative action.Consult your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse during treatment with this medicine.
Andrews Original Salts may not be suitable for everyone and some people must never take it. Always get advice from a healthcare professional before taking this medicine if: you are allergic or sensitive to or have had a reaction to any of the ingredients in the medicine this medicine is for a child under three years of age you have diabetes you have persistent stomach pain you have to limit the intake of salt because of having conditions such as high blood pressure, heart problems or kidney problems you have to take a laxative every day If you are taking more than one medicine they may interact with each other. Before taking this medicine consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines including vitamins, supplements and herbal or complementary preparations. The following medicines may interact with this medicine: tetracyclines medicines that are affected by an alkaline or less acidic urine Most medicines can cause some side-effects but not everyone having the same medicine will get the same side-effects. The following side-effects have been associated with people taking this medicine: abnormally high levels of magnesium or low levels of calcium - these may occur in people with kidney problems if they take this medicine frequently or for long periods of time diarrhoea If you are trying to become pregnant, are pregnant, or are breast-feeding, you should seek medical advice before taking this medicine. Make sure that you read the leaflet that comes with your medicine to check what dose you should take and if there is anything that you need to do if you take more than the recommended dose. If you are in any doubt about whether this medicine is suitable for you, speak to your doctor or pharmacist. If your medicine comes in a plastic container, you must dispose of the container and any remaining contents three months after opening it. It is a good idea to make a note of the date when you first opened it. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
Directions Adults (including the elderly): As an antacid: Measure one level spoonful (5 ml spoonful) and take in a glass of water repeated as necessary, up to a maximum of four times a day. As a laxative: Measure two level spoonfuls (two 5 ml spoonfuls) and take in a glass of water before breakfast or at bedtime. Children over 3 years: Half the adult dose. Not suitable for children under 3 years of age.
