Kolanticon Gel contains an antispasmodic (relieves muscle spasm), an antiflatulent (relieves wind) and antacids. Kolanticon Gel is used to treat stomach complaints, such as irritable bowel syndrome, where there are problems such as painful cramps, indigestion and flatulence (wind). It helps to relieve painful cramps by relaxing the muscles of the intestine. It helps to relieve indigestion by reducing acidity, and relieve flatulence by bringing together all the small bubbles of gas to form a large bubble which can be expelled. This medicine is used to treat and prevent peptic ulcer, indigestion, and flatulence. It also relieves symptoms associated with excess acid, oesophagitis, gastritis, hiatus hernia, gastrointestinal muscle spasms, and irritable bowel syndrome. This medicine has four main ingredients which work together to relieve the pain and discomfort caused by excess acid, excess gas or cramps: dicycloverine hydrochloride, simeticone, aluminium hydroxide and magnesium oxide light. Dicycloverine relaxes muscles in the gut and relieves muscle spasms and cramps. Simeticone is an antiflatulent and works as an antifoaming agent. It joins small bubbles of gas trapped in the stomach to form large bubbles which can then be easily expelled as wind. This helps relieve the pain and discomfort caused by trapped wind. Aluminium hydroxide and magnesium oxide light are antacids and work by neutralising excess acid and protect the stomach from irritation.
